So you started a You Tube channel but you’ve got no sales, no engagement, and no subscribers. I know you want to quit, but don’t do it just yet. My name’s Jess, and I post weekly videos for business owners, helping you save time and look good online, which is why today, we’re going to talk about getting sales from YouTube.
The biggest frustration I hear from business owners is, “Well, I’m not getting sales from YouTube, and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.”
A lot of times when I look at these YouTube channels, I’m like, “Where are your calls to action? You’re not telling people to download anything, or to hire you, or to look in the description for a link to learn more, or anything.” People need a prompt. It doesn’t have to be an over the top kind of sleazy like, “You need to hire me right now,” kind of message. I have never said that in a video, and I’ve gotten plenty of clients from YouTube.
The second biggest frustration I hear is, “No one is engaging with my videos. I get six views, maybe one like, and occasionally a comment. And it’s kind of embarrassing that no-one engages with my videos.” So when that’s happening I ask three questions. First, how often are you actually sharing the video? Second, are you optimizing the title, and the keywords, and the description? And third, are you starting the dialog? This goes back to having a call of action within your video, but also be the first one to leave a comment in the comments section. It’s not like you’re giving yourself a compliment saying, “Great video,” but you just want to say, “Hey, what are you struggling with when it comes to…”
A lot of people don’t want to be the first one to comment on a video, so if you were there starting a conversation, they know that they’re not going to be the first, and you might actually show up and reply to them.
And the last big frustration I hear a lot is, “I’m not getting anymore subscribers.” Well, you need to give people a reason to come back. As I said earlier in this video, I help business owners save time and look good online, so if people are interested in doing that, they’re more likely to subscribe because they want to see what other tips I might give them. This is also where telling stories throughout your videos, making them more engaging and interesting can also help. And I’m not saying you have to literally read a story in your video, or even tell a whole big long story, but make it engaging, make it interesting.
